One of the keys to Ascutney's tremendous family appeal is our highly acclaimed children's programs. The best way to enjoy your winter vacation or getaway is to enroll your kids in our popular programs to ensure that they are having just as good a time as you are. You can relax with confidence that your children are in a secure, fun and stimulating environment, supervised by a well-trained staff that understand and respond to their individual needs.

We offer specific age-grouped children's programs for those ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. For those older children, as well as adults we offer group and private lessons . Our programs and lessons are open to skiers and riders of all abilities. The ultimate goal is for you to continually improve, on skis or snowboard, as a beginner, intermediate or expert.

If you're looking for a change of pace, or if you're not a skier or snowboarder, and want an outdoor activity, try cross-country skiing. With both private and group lessons, this is a great opportunity to learn a new sport or improve under the direction of our experienced instructors.

There's fun to be had for all – let us show you how to best enjoy the winter season in Vermont!

F.A.Q About Kids Skiing and Riding

What is the best age for kids to start skiing and snowboarding?
Although each child is different, most children are ready to be introduced to skiing at about the age of three. Children seem to be most successful with snowboarding from age six.

What will my child learn in your children's programs?
Our emphasis is on safety, fun and learning in that order. Our kid-oriented instructors use a combination of guided discovery, games, demonstrations, practice and on-snow mileage to help kids on their way to better skiing and riding.

What does a child need to bring?
Absolutely essential for a fun and enjoyable experience is waterproof outerwear, including waterproof gloves or mittens. Kids also need a hat, long underwear, a turtleneck and ski socks. Advisable is a neck gaiter, goggles, an extra pair of dry socks and a helmet for safety. Remember to dress your child in layers and bring sunscreen.

Should I choose Flying D.U.C.K.S. or Mini Olympians for my four year old?
That really depends on your child and your own expectations. Flying D.U.C.K.S. features an orientation designed to introduce children to ski equipment and preliminary sliding and gliding. During the rest of the session, Flying D.U.C.K.S. participate in creative play in our Ducklings program. Mini Olympians is primarily an on-snow program and kids will spend most of the session outdoors. This program is geared to children of different abilities and your child will be grouped accordingly. Many four year olds are ready for Mini Olympians, but if your child tires easily, naps or isn't ready for a full session on snow, Flying D.U.C.K.S. provides an enjoyable initiation to skiing.
